I'm proud to offer from my home-based workshop just outside of Manchester a 1 day Lathe course for absolute beginners:
Considering getting a lathe but not sure if it's for you? Just got a lathe and feel daunted by all the options and not got a clue where to start?
As a self-taught machinist I've been through all of the above, I know the pitfalls and I've spent a lot of hours learning and honing my craft. I want to be able to pass on some of these skills and give you an opportunity to experience how much fun manual machining can be!
Realistically how much can I learn on a one day course, and what do I get?
The truth of the matter is you can pick up basic lathe skills very quickly, however it can often feel underwhelming to see the results as you make handfuls of spacers. So when you visit the YōME workshop we will spend the day working through one of the Amaterasu Tail Light Kits which is of course included in the price:
By the end of the day you will have new knowledge to take home, and whether you decide to continue machining or not, you will also have a totally custom dual-function brake/running light for your motorcycle that you've personalised yourself!
How long is the course?
The course runs for a full day starting at 9am and finishing whenever you are satisfied up to 6pm. However for anyone travelling from distance, I will try to be as flexible as possible with start and finish times and work to your requirements, but must allow for a certain amount of time to ensure we finish the kit as a minimum!
When can I attend?
The diary is open now! I will always try to be as flexible as possible with my dates, but must respect my neighbours as I am based in a quiet residential area. Please contact me first if you want to discuss anything in advance. Once payment has been confirmed I will confirm your attendance via e-mail.
What should I bring?
Yourself and a bite of lunch. Hot drinks are free for the day, but due to various allergies I can't offer anything beyond a few snacks.
Other Important Stuff:
I aim to run this course on a 1-on-1 basis to ensure my full attention is given to the requirements of each person attending. As such it is not suitable for anyone under the age of 18. However please contact me first if you have any special requirements and I will try to be as flexible as possible. Parking is available on a private drive for both motorcycles and cars, but please be aware this is not part of the workshop so bring a cover if it's raining! For those with pet allergies, I have a cat who spends 99% of the day sleeping.
Smoking in the workshop is not permitted at any time, but is fine outside.
